Man Charged with Abduction and Assault

A recent incident in Galax has left the community in shock as a man was charged with abduction and assault. According to reports from the Galax Police Department, officers responded to a residence on Parkwood Drive after receiving a report of someone possibly being held against their will. Upon arriving at the scene, officers were granted entry into the home through an open window by a family member. They found a male individual with obvious bruising and injuries, prompting them to call for emergency medical services. The suspect, identified as Christopher Sells, 48, was taken into custody without incident and charged with felony abduction and kidnapping, misdemeanor assault and battery on a family member, and misdemeanor obstructing justice. Sells was denied bond and transported to the New River Valley Regional Jail.

Felony Drug-Related Arrests

In a separate incident, officers made three felony drug-related arrests in the Galax area. During a routine traffic stop, officers discovered a vehicle with expired tags in possession of Rudolph Barker Jr., 56, and Alisha Phillips, 33. Upon further investigation, K9 Rocko alerted officers to the presence of methamphetamine in the vehicle, leading to Barker being charged with felony possession of a controlled substance and Phillips with felony possession of a controlled substance and misdemeanor possession of paraphernalia. Both individuals were given secure bonds and taken to the regional jail for processing.

Discovery of Drugs After Speeding Stop

Another incident unfolded when Officer Tozzolo spotted a vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed with expired tags. Upon pulling over the vehicle, he discovered the driver, Shellie Bender, 49, exhibiting signs of impairment. Bender admitted to consuming alcohol and marijuana earlier in the day, leading to her arrest on charges of felony possession of a controlled substance. A search of the vehicle uncovered drug paraphernalia, confirming Bender’s admission of drug use. She was given a secure bond and transported to the regional jail for further processing.

Vehicle Search Reveals Meth

In a final incident, Officer Tozzolo conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle with no tag, only a piece of cardboard, near the intersection of East Stuart Drive and Cranberry Road. Upon further investigation, a search of the vehicle revealed a clear plastic container containing crystal methamphetamine. The driver, Gregory Carter, 32, admitted to owning the container and was subsequently charged with felony possession of a controlled substance. Carter was denied bond and taken to the regional jail for processing.
