In a recent development, the Penampang police have successfully apprehended a suspect involved in a series of armed robberies targeting 24-hour convenience stores. The 47-year-old local man was captured by the authorities, but his accomplice remains at large, sparking a manhunt to bring him to justice.

According to Penampang police chief Superintendent Sammy Newton, the arrested suspect and his partner carried out a string of robberies in Penampang, Kota Kinabalu, and Keningau. Their most recent heist took place in Penampang on June 16, where they stormed a convenience store armed with machetes. Wearing crash helmets to conceal their identities, the duo made off with RM1,081.50 in cash and a mobile phone valued at RM2,000 before fleeing the scene on a black motorcycle.

Following the robbery, the Crime Investigation Department (CID) personnel from Penampang and Kepayan joined forces to track down the main suspect.
