Details of the Arrest
According to a New York Police Department spokesperson, the incident occurred around 9:34 p.m. on July 4th when officers attempted to stop a person from lighting fireworks and aiming them at apartment windows. The situation escalated when a 27-year-old man, identified as Shaquan Davis, allegedly prevented the police from pursuing the individual by pushing an officer. When officers tried to arrest Davis, he resisted by pushing, shoving, wrestling, flailing his arms, and punching the officer.
Charges Against Davis
Davis, a resident of Brooklyn, was subsequently arrested on charges of assault of a police officer, resisting arrest, obstructing governmental administration, assault with intent to cause physical injury, disorderly conduct, and harassment. He is scheduled to appear in court on October 7th. Davis’s attorney, Jonathan Fink, maintains that his client denies any wrongdoing and claims that Davis was actually assaulted by the police during the incident.
Mayor Adams’ Response
Mayor Adams addressed the incident during a radio show, where he confirmed that Police Commissioner Edward Caban had placed the officers involved on a modified assignment.
