**Man’s Ambitious Escape Attempt Ends in Arrest**

A 38-year-old man in Langford had his dreams of making the Olympic gymnastics team come crashing down during an arrest attempt this week. The incident unfolded at around 5:40pm on Tuesday, 9 July 2024, when officers entered the man’s Langford home with an arrest warrant. The man, determined to evade capture, made a bold move by climbing out of a bedroom window and into the backyard. In a desperate attempt to flee, he used a trampoline to propel himself over the neighbouring fence. However, his efforts were in vain as pursuing police quickly caught up with him. The man now faces several charges, including one count of ‘Criminal Damage’ for destroying two fence panels in his escape bid.

**Attempted Fraud on Elderly Woman Foiled**

Cannington Detectives have successfully charged a 25-year-old man with fraud offences after he attempted to scam a 93-year-old woman out of $58,000. The victim received multiple phone calls between 26 and 27 June 2024 from a man claiming to be investigating scammers trying to hack her bank accounts. The man, later identified as the accused, convinced the woman to withdraw a large sum of money for the supposed investigation. Thankfully, the victim confided in her neighbour, who urged her to contact the police. When the accused arrived at the victim’s address in South Perth on 28 June 2024 to collect the cash, he was promptly arrested. The man now faces charges of ‘Intent to Defraud by Deceit’ and is scheduled to appear in court on 18 July 2024. Detective Senior Sergeant Andrew Thompson of Cannington Detectives warned of fraudulent groups targeting vulnerable individuals and urged the public to remain vigilant against such scams.

**Hit-and-Run Leaves Pedestrian in Critical Condition**

Authorities are seeking information on a hit-and-run incident that left a 38-year-old pedestrian with severe injuries in Maddington. The collision occurred around 7:30pm on 8 July 2024, when a dark-coloured vehicle travelling north along Albany Highway struck the pedestrian near a service station. The victim was rushed to Royal Perth Hospital and admitted to the intensive care unit. Shockingly, the driver of the vehicle callously fled the scene without offering any assistance. Major Crash officers are appealing to anyone who witnessed the incident or has information about the driver to come forward and contact Crime Stoppers.

**Police Appeal for Information on Missing Man**

Cannington Detectives are seeking the public’s help in locating 50-year-old Robert John Oliver, who is wanted for questioning in an ongoing investigation. Described as approximately 180cm tall, of medium build with short brown hair and a tattoo on his left hand, Mr Oliver is believed to frequent areas in Perth, South Perth, and Mandurah. If spotted, individuals are advised not to approach him but to contact the police immediately. Anyone with information on Mr Oliver’s whereabouts is urged to contact Crime Stoppers.
