Investigation Unveils Suspicious Parcels and Criminal Activity

The DEA identified two additional suspicious packages destined for Round Lake and Wisconsin, prompting the involvement of the Lake County Metropolitan Enforcement Group (LCMEG). Surveillance was conducted at a residence on North Cedar Lake Road in Round Lake, where a male subject, later identified as Akeem S. Shofidiya, 39, of Lake Villa, was observed retrieving a parcel containing narcotics.

Extensive Criminal History and Gang Involvement

Shofidiya, known for his extensive criminal history involving weapons and drug trafficking, as well as documented gang affiliation, was the primary suspect in the drug trafficking operation. LCMEG intercepted a package at a shipping facility in Illinois, which tested positive for fentanyl, a potent opioid.

SWAT Operation and Significant Drug Seizure

Following the interception of the package, LCMEG executed a search warrant at the Round Lake residence, where Shofidiya was seen bringing in the illicit package. A search of the property led to the discovery of a substantial amount of narcotics, including fentanyl, cannabis, cocaine, ecstasy pills, and methamphetamine. Additionally, a ghost handgun and cash were recovered from the premises.

Arrests and Charges

Shofidiya and Mykal P. Wade, 35, of Round Lake, were both arrested and charged with various drug-related offenses, including manufacturing and delivery of controlled substances, possession of illegal drugs, obstructing justice, and child endangerment. A young child found in the residence was taken into custody by the Department of Child and Family Services (DCFS).
