The impact caused Kaveri to be dragged on the bonnet of the car for nearly two kilometres before she was thrown onto the road. Kaveri, a resident of Worli Koliwada, was on her way back with her husband, Pradeep Nakhwa, after buying fish from Crawford market. Pradeep also sustained injuries in the accident.

Following the accident, Mihir and his driver, Rajrishi Bidawat, allegedly went for a joy ride to Marine Drive. On their way back, Mihir took over the wheel and collided with the two-wheeler in Worli. After the incident, Mihir abandoned the car at Kalanagar in Bandra and fled the scene. Both Rajesh Shah and Bidawat were arrested late on Sunday for their involvement in helping Mihir escape and tampering with the evidence.
