State Police Investigation
State police are currently investigating the crash that occurred on the Fourth of July morning in Parsonsfield. Reports came in to the Augusta Regional Communications Center about an abandoned pickup truck and boat blocking the travel lane of Route 160. The Maine Department of Public Safety spokesperson, Shannon Moss, confirmed the details in a press release.
The Abandoned Pickup Truck
Upon responding to the scene, state troopers discovered a blue 2009 Chevrolet 1500 pickup truck with a 12-foot aluminum boat in the truck bed. It was determined that the driver had missed a turn and collided with a parked vehicle and a garage at a nearby residence. Shockingly, the driver then reversed the vehicle, leaving behind a trail of debris, including the boat that had fallen out of the truck.
The Driver’s Escape
The driver, identified as 23-year-old Joshua Hermance of Parsonsfield, continued driving despite the damage sustained in the crash. As he drove on, the front driver’s side tire shredded until it completely separated from the rim. Hermance then made the decision to abandon the pickup truck and flee the scene, leaving authorities to piece together the aftermath of his reckless actions.
Legal Consequences
Joshua Hermance is now facing a series of charges in connection with the incident. He has been charged with failure to give notice of an accident by quickest means, failure to notify the owner of property damage, failure to return to the scene of the accident, and leaving the scene of a property damage accident.
