Tragic Mass Shooting Leaves Four Dead and Three Injured in Florence, Kentucky

Early Saturday morning, a quiet residential neighbourhood in Florence, Kentucky, was shattered by a horrific mass shooting that left four people dead and three injured. The Florence Police Department responded to reports of an active shooter at a residence on Ridgecrest Drive at around 2:51 a.m.

Police Response and Victims identified

Upon arriving at the scene, officers heard gunshots and found seven victims, two of whom were outside the residence. Tragically, four victims succumbed to their injuries on site, while the remaining three were rushed to UC Medical Center in critical but stable condition.

The victims were identified as Shane Miller (20), Hayden Rybicki (20), Delaney Eary (19), and Melissa Parrett (44). The shooting took place during a 21st birthday party for Parrett’s son, adding an even more heart-wrenching layer to the tragedy.

Suspect Identified and Pursuit Ensues

Witnesses at the scene informed officers that the suspect fled in a vehicle. Law enforcement located the vehicle near Farmview Drive and US-42 and attempted a traffic stop. However, the suspect evaded capture and led officers on a pursuit that ended when the vehicle crashed into a ditch on Dale Heimbrock Way near Hicks Pike.

The suspect was found inside the vehicle with a self-inflicted gunshot wound and was later identified as Chase Garvey (21). Garvey, a convicted sex offender, was transported to St. Elizabeth Hospital, where he sadly passed away.

Authorities do not believe Garvey was invited to the party but was acquainted with some of the attendees. The motive behind the senseless act of violence is still under investigation, leaving the community in shock and disbelief.
