Marshals Shoot 18-Year-Old During Alleged Carjacking Attempt

An 18-year-old named Kentrell Flowers found himself in the crosshairs of the law early Friday morning when he allegedly attempted to carjack a Deputy United States Marshal in Washington.

Details of the Incident

According to reports from the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD), the incident took place at around 1:15 a.m. in the 2100 block of 11th Street, Northwest. The marshals were inside a parked car when Flowers emerged from another vehicle and approached one of them with a gun, attempting to steal the vehicle.

The marshal inside the car fired several shots at Flowers in self-defence, with another marshal in a separate vehicle also firing at the suspect. Fortunately, neither of the marshals sustained any injuries during the incident.

Outcome and Charges

Despite being shot, Flowers survived the encounter and was promptly taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. He is expected to recover from his injuries. Following the incident, Flowers was charged with armed carjacking, carrying a pistol without a license, and possession of a large-capacity ammunition feed device.

Investigation Ongoing

The MPD’s Internal Affairs Division’s Force Investigations Team is currently looking into the circumstances surrounding the shooting of Flowers. This team is responsible for investigating all law enforcement officer-involved shootings in the District to ensure transparency and accountability.
