The Arrest of Former Judge Christina Peterson

Former Douglas County Judge Christina Peterson found herself in the spotlight after Atlanta police released new video footage of her arrest at a local nightclub. The incident, which occurred on June 20, involved Peterson allegedly interfering with a security guard and police officer while trying to de-escalate a disturbance outside the Red Martini Restaurant and Lounge in Buckhead.

According to a police report obtained by FOX 5, Peterson became agitated and began shouting at the security guard and officer, eventually pushing the officer in the chest. Despite repeated attempts to calm the situation, Peterson continued to disrupt the officer’s efforts to remove the woman causing the disturbance. After a second push to the chest, Peterson was placed under arrest, but she refused to provide her identifying information, leading to delays in the processing of her arrest.

In the newly released footage, Peterson can be seen emotionally expressing her frustration while sitting in the back of a squad car. She adamantly denies committing any crimes, claiming that she is being harassed and accusing the situation of being politically motivated. Peterson now faces charges of felony obstruction and simple battery of a police officer.

Supporters Rally Around Peterson

Following her arrest, Peterson’s supporters, including witnesses Madison Shannon Kelly and Alexandria Love, rallied around her, insisting that she was innocent. They claimed that Peterson had intervened to protect Love from a violent attack after an unidentified man accused her of cutting in line at a food truck.

During a press conference held a day after her arrest, Peterson, accompanied by her lawyer and witnesses, proclaimed her innocence. Love tearfully recounted the incident, stating that Peterson was the only one who came to her aid when she was assaulted. Kelly also expressed gratitude towards Peterson for her intervention, highlighting the impact she had on the situation.

One piece of newly discovered body camera footage seemed to corroborate the witnesses’ version of events. In the footage, an unidentified man can be heard telling police that Peterson had jumped in to assist Love and described her as being inebriated at the time.

Georgia Supreme Court Decision

In a recent development, the Georgia Supreme Court ruled that Peterson should be removed from office immediately and barred from seeking any judicial position in the state for the next seven years. This decision came after a series of investigations by the Judicial Qualifications Commission (JQC) revealed instances of misconduct and incompetence on Peterson’s part.

The JQC found Peterson guilty of systemic incompetence due to her disregard for courthouse rules, mistreatment of courthouse personnel, inappropriate social media posts, and failure to fulfill her duties as a judge. Despite facing 30 counts of misconduct, Peterson continued to deny any wrongdoing.

Peterson, who was in her final year on the bench, recently lost her bid for re-election. The Supreme Court’s ruling effectively ends her judicial career and raises questions about her future in the legal profession..
