The NEET-UG Scam Unfolds

In a recent development, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has made significant progress in unravelling the alleged irregularities in the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) UG case. The agency has apprehended a suspected key conspirator, Aman Singh, in connection with the scandal.

The Arrests in Dhanbad and Hazaribagh

Aman Singh was taken into custody in Dhanbad, Jharkhand, following the arrest of two other suspects, Dr. Ehsaan Ul Haq and Imtiaz Alam, who held positions at the Oasis School in Hazaribagh. Dr. Haq, who served as the city coordinator for the NEET-UG exam 2024, and Alam were detained by the CBI earlier.

Further Investigations in Patna

The investigation also led to the arrest of two more individuals, Manish Prakash and Ashutosh, in Patna. According to a senior CBI official, Ashutosh facilitated safe house premises for the students, while Manish transported candidates to a school for ‘preparation’ ahead of the exam.

The Allegations and Protests

The NEET-UG scandal has stirred controversy, with allegations of paper leaks, impersonation, and cheating marring the integrity of the examination. The National Testing Agency (NTA), responsible for conducting the NEET-UG exam, has come under fire, prompting widespread protests and calls for the agency to be disbanded.

Legal Proceedings and Supreme Court Intervention

As the investigation unfolds, the Supreme Court is set to hear a series of pleas on July 8, addressing the alleged irregularities and paper leaks in the NEET-UG exam. The court has sought responses from the NTA, emphasizing the need to uphold the sanctity of the examination process.

Repercussions and Re-Tests

In response to the allegations, the Centre and the NTA cancelled grace marks awarded to candidates and offered a re-test option to those affected. A total of 813 students participated in the re-test held on June 23 across multiple centres, as efforts are made to address the concerns raised by the scandal.

Looking Ahead

As the investigation progresses and legal proceedings unfold, the NEET-UG scandal continues to reverberate across the education sector. With calls for accountability and transparency, the future of the examination process hangs in the balance, as stakeholders await further developments in this ongoing saga..
