In a disturbing turn of events, a man has been arrested in connection with the brutal murder of a 4-year-old boy in Takajjunge village, Mukono district. The suspect, identified as Dauda Jjumba, is accused of hacking the young child, Adam Matovu, to death before dumping his body in a pit latrine.
Neighbourhood Shocked by Gruesome Discovery
The shocking incident unfolded last week when a stranger was spotted scaling over a perimeter wall in the village. A neighbour gave chase and managed to recover a blood-stained knife from a bag that the suspect had dumped. Shortly after, a child from a nearby village was reported missing, leading to the grim discovery of his body in a pit latrine.
“We tried to apprehend the stranger, but he managed to evade us,” recounted Ronald Ssenkima, a resident of the neighbourhood. “Upon finding the knife with fresh blood, we alerted the authorities about the suspicious individual in our midst.”
Police Investigation and Arrest
Luke Owoyesigyire, the Kampala Metropolitan Deputy Police Spokesperson, revealed that sniffer dogs played a crucial role in tracking down and apprehending Dauda Jjumba. However, Owoyesigyire cautioned that while Jjumba is in custody, further forensic analysis is needed to confirm his involvement in the heinous crime.
“We have submitted key pieces of evidence, including the bag, knife, and bed sheets, for DNA analysis,” stated ASP Owoyesigyire. “Only after we receive the results from our forensic team can we definitively link the suspect to the murder of young Adam Matovu.”
