A Burbank man, Michael J. O’Conner, 26, has found himself in hot water after being charged with six felony counts of disorderly conduct following a months-long investigation. The Palos Park police launched an extensive probe after the Palos Fire Protection District reported receiving multiple false fire tones on March 18.

The fire tones, which are specific sequences used to trigger emergency alerts to fire companies, were activated at the Palos Fire Protection District. However, when officials contacted Orland Fire Central Dispatch, they discovered that there were no actual calls for service. The Orland Fire Protection District confirmed that their system was functioning properly, leading to suspicions of foul play.

Upon taking O’Conner into custody, officers discovered portable radio equipment in his vehicle, which was seized as evidence. O’Conner voluntarily went to the station for questioning, during which his mobile phone was confiscated. Through collaborative efforts with other law enforcement agencies, investigators managed to find video evidence of the incidents on O’Conner’s seized phone.

O’Conner surrendered to authorities on July 1, and the Cook County State’s Attorney approved the filing of six felony counts of disorderly conduct in relation to the Palos prank calls. Additionally, O’Conner is facing pending cases in other communities and has been summoned to appear at both the Bridgeview and Maywood courthouses.
