In a heart-wrenching turn of events, four individuals, including a young boy and his two sisters, met a tragic end as they drowned while bathing in the serene waters of Tarbela and Khanpur lakes in Haripur. The victims, hailing from Alooli village, had embarked on a family picnic to Tarbela Lake, seeking respite from the scorching heat. However, what was meant to be a day of relaxation turned into a nightmare as nine-year-old Faizan, along with his sisters Anees Fatima, 13, and Liaba Bibi, 12, accidentally slipped into the deep waters and tragically lost their lives.

Spate of Tragedies Despite Ban on Swimming

Shockingly, these recent drownings mark the seventh such incident in just two weeks, despite the district administration’s ban on swimming and bathing in dams and canals. The authorities’ efforts to enforce safety measures have seemingly fallen short, leaving families shattered and communities in grief. The tragic loss of young Faizan, Anees Fatima, and Liaba Bibi serves as a poignant reminder of the consequences of disregard for regulations meant to protect lives.

Tragedy struck once more as a man met his untimely demise in the depths of Khanpur Canal. Reports from police and rescue sources indicate that the victim, identified as Tariq Mehmood, 31, lost his life while bathing in the left bank canal of Khanpur Dam. The swift actions of rescue workers were unable to alter the grim outcome, and Tariq’s body was solemnly transferred to Khanpur Hospital. The community mourns the loss of yet another soul to the unforgiving waters.

Escape from Custody Adds to the Tragedy

In a shocking development, the somber atmosphere in Haripur was further marred by an escape from police custody. Raja Ehtesham, a resident of Jabb village, had been apprehended for committing two robberies in his native village and Sanjliala village. Despite being in police custody at Pind Muneem police post, Raja managed to free himself and abscond when the officers were preoccupied with ensuring the security of Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif. The escape of the accused only compounds the grief and frustration felt by the community in the wake of these tragic events.
