Teenager Charged with First-Degree Reckless Homicide in Milwaukee Shooting

A tragic incident unfolded at Sherman Park in Milwaukee, where a man named Gary Grose, aged 65, lost his life in a shooting. The Milwaukee County Medical Examiner identified Grose as the victim who tragically succumbed to his injuries at a local hospital. The shocking event took place on June 15, leading to one man losing his life and another sustaining gunshot wounds.

Details of the Shooting

Reports indicate that two suspects fired shots at the park, with the exact details of who fired the fatal bullet still unclear. Zechariah Watson Macklin, a 16-year-old, has been charged with first-degree reckless homicide as a party to the crime. However, the second suspect involved in the shooting remains unidentified.

Sheriff’s Detective Matthew Vandertie revealed that law enforcement agencies responded to the scene promptly after receiving reports of the shooting at Sherman Park. Despite their efforts, Grose passed away at the hospital shortly after 6:30 p.m., marking a tragic loss that has left the community in shock.

Eye-Witness Accounts

Detective Mason Kohlhapp conducted interviews with the victims and witnesses to piece together what led to the fatal shooting. One of the victims, identified as “DDD,” recounted seeing a physical altercation between a young individual and a large group. Attempting to intervene, DDD and his brother, known as “DD,” tried to break up the fight to prevent further harm. However, the situation escalated into gunshots, resulting in DDD being shot in the leg.

Further investigations revealed that a significant number of gunshots were fired during the incident, with detectives recovering 17 cartridges from the scene. Surveillance footage from the Mary Ryan Boys and Girls Club captured the chilling moments when two suspects, identified as Suspect 1 and Suspect 2, opened fire at the victims and others present at the park.

Through the security video footage, authorities identified Zechariah Watson Macklin as Suspect 1, one of the shooters involved in the incident. Watson Macklin admitted to being in the video and claimed that he shot in self-defense, believing an “old man” had a gun.
