Drug Smuggling Rackets Busted in Amritsar

In a significant crackdown on drug smuggling activities, the Amritsar police have made a major breakthrough with the arrest of six individuals and the recovery of 8kg of heroin, along with three pistols. The recent success follows closely on the heels of another operation where the Amritsar commissionerate police busted two cross-border drug smuggling cartels operated by Pakistan-based smugglers. Three drug traffickers were apprehended, and 9.2kg of heroin was seized in that operation.

Arrests and Seizures

Acting on a tip-off, police teams from Amritsar rural were able to intercept two individuals, Gurbhej Singh and Jaskaran Singh, near a brick kiln at Bachiwind village. The accused, both residents of Amritsar’s Manj village, were found in possession of 6kg of heroin and three pistols, including a 9mm glock and two .32 bore pistols. Their motorcycle was also impounded by the authorities.

In a separate operation, patrolling teams of Amritsar rural police arrested a father and son duo, Balbir Singh and Aakashdeep Singh, along with two other individuals near Nurpur village. The group was in the process of finalizing a deal for a 2kg heroin consignment. The other two arrested persons, Philpus and Jobanjit Singh, were identified as residents of Mulechak village in Amritsar.

Police Response

Director General of Police (DGP, Punjab) Gaurav Yadav commended the swift action taken by the police teams in apprehending the accused individuals and seizing the contraband. The successful operations have dealt a significant blow to the drug smuggling networks operating in the region and have disrupted their illicit activities.
