Arrest Made in Stolen Vehicle and Drug Case

Late in the evening on June 23, a report from concerned citizens led officers to a suspicious scene on Van Zee Drive. A tow truck was spotted unloading a motorcycle that seemed out of place in the area. Upon investigation, officers came face to face with Mark Hegedus, a 54-year-old resident of San Bruno. It was quickly discovered that Hegedus had arrived in the tow truck with a stolen license plate and was in possession of a stolen motorcycle. K-9 Ricky was brought in and alerted officers to something amiss in the tow truck. A search revealed 4 ounces of methamphetamine, along with scales and cash that indicated drug sales. Hegedus was promptly taken into custody and booked into Yolo County Jail on charges of possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell, and possession of a stolen vehicle.

Violent Encounter Ends in Stabbing

As the sun began to set on June 25, a violent altercation unfolded near the 1300 block of E. Main Street. An adult male was found with a stab wound to his abdomen, the result of an unprovoked attack. The victim, simply entering a store, was suddenly confronted by Derrick Thompson, a 36-year-old Woodland resident. Without warning, Thompson lashed out with a knife, inflicting serious harm before fleeing the scene. Quick police work led to Thompson’s arrest in a nearby parking lot, where he was taken into custody and charged with assault with a deadly weapon.
