Tuscaloosa County Sheriff Investigating Fatal Shooting

In a tragic incident that occurred early Sunday morning, the Tuscaloosa County Sheriff’s office is currently investigating a fatal shooting that left one man dead and another injured in Tuscaloosa County. The incident took place in the 2000 block of Stardust Drive, where deputies responded to a 911 call reporting a shooting at approximately 3:14 a.m.

Details of the Incident

Upon arrival at the scene, deputies discovered two men who had been shot. The first victim, a 23-year-old resident of Tuscaloosa, sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was promptly transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. The second victim, identified as 53-year-old Reggie Coverson, was tragically pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigation and Findings

Authorities were informed by a 36-year-old man present at the scene that he had shot Coverson. Following this revelation, the individual was taken to the Violent Crimes Unit for questioning by investigators. Additionally, the Tuscaloosa County Sheriff’s office conducted interviews with multiple witnesses who were in the vicinity at the time of the incident.

Verbal Dispute Turns Fatal

After thorough investigation and consultation with the District Attorney’s Office, law enforcement determined that a verbal altercation had escalated into a fatal shooting. Subsequent findings indicated that Coverson had initiated the altercation and was ultimately shot in self-defense by the 36-year-old individual present at the scene. Evidence also revealed that Coverson had initially shot the 23-year-old victim before being shot himself.

Current Status and Pending Action

The 23-year-old victim, whose identity has not been disclosed by authorities, is reported to be in stable condition following the incident. As of now, no charges have been filed in connection with the shooting. The case is set to be presented to the Tuscaloosa County Grand Jury for further review and consideration.
