Tragic Rollover Crash Claims Lives of Two New Mexico Residents

In a heartbreaking turn of events, two New Mexico residents lost their lives in a single-vehicle rollover crash in Dallam County. The incident occurred on Friday afternoon, when a 2004 Ford F-150 was travelling east on FM 297, approximately 18 miles east of Dalhart.

Details of the Crash

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS), the driver of the pickup truck failed to maintain a single lane, causing the vehicle to veer off the road into the south ditch. The driver attempted to steer the pickup back onto the roadway, but over-corrected, leading to a series of dangerous manoeuvres.

The pickup truck crossed the eastbound lane into the westbound lane before attempting to return to the eastbound lane and ultimately rolling over. Both occupants of the vehicle, identified as Francisco Galaviz, 66, and Joaquin Galaviz-Marquez, 62, were ejected from the vehicle as they were not wearing seat belts. Tragically, both individuals were pronounced dead at the scene by Dallam County Justice of the Peace Carrol Smith.

Biographies of the Deceased

Francisco Galaviz, a 66-year-old resident of Gallup, New Mexico, was the driver of the pickup truck. Described by friends and family as a hardworking and caring individual, Francisco was known for his love of the outdoors and commitment to his community. He leaves behind a wife, three children, and several grandchildren.

Joaquin Galaviz-Marquez, a 62-year-old passenger in the vehicle, was a close friend of Francisco and shared his passion for adventure and exploration. Originally from Mexico, Joaquin had made a home in Gallup and was beloved by all who knew him for his kindness and sense of humour. He is survived by his wife, two children, and extended family members.
