A tragic incident unfolded in Karikkanthangal village near Sholinghur town, where a 37-year-old wage labourer, K. Devaraj, lost his life in a senseless act of violence. Devaraj, who worked diligently in a private cement factory near Arakkonam town, met with a gruesome fate when a gang of drunk individuals accosted him on his way home.
Victim Resists Phone Snatching
As Devaraj made his way back home, he was approached by a group of individuals who demanded his mobile phone. Refusing to comply with their demands, Devaraj stood his ground and refused to part with his belongings. This refusal proved to be fatal as the gang, in a fit of rage, attempted to snatch the phone from him using sharp weapons.
Desperate Cry for Help
In a desperate attempt to defend himself, Devaraj cried out for help as the gang attacked him mercilessly. Despite the brave efforts of residents and passersby who rushed him to the Government Taluk Hospital in Sholinghur town, it was too late. Doctors pronounced Devaraj dead on arrival, leaving a community in shock and mourning.
Arrest of Suspects
Following the heinous crime, the Sholinghur police sprang into action, launching a thorough investigation to apprehend the culprits responsible for Devaraj’s untimely demise. Led by Ranipet SP D. V. Kiran Shruthi, special teams were formed to track down the perpetrators. After meticulous detective work, eight individuals were arrested and subsequently placed in police custody.

The arrested individuals, identified as V. Gajendran, R. Bharath, E. Bhavanthan, K. Mohan, B. Vinoth Kumar, P. Vinayagam, K. Appu Kumar, and G. Bharath, all hail from Sholinghur town. These individuals, in a moment of recklessness fuelled by alcohol, made a grave mistake that cost an innocent man his life.
