**Investigation launched into the death of 71-year-old woman in Hawaiian Acres**

Hawai‘i Police Department has initiated a homicide investigation following the tragic discovery of a 71-year-old woman found deceased in her Hawaiian Acres home late last week. The victim has been identified as Yong Cha Kim, a resident of Mountain View.
**Discovery of the victim**
The homicide is believed to have taken place between the evening of Tuesday, June 18, and Thursday, June 20. Puna patrol officers were alerted to a residence in the 16-1100 block of Uhini Ana Road in Mountain View after an elderly man found his wife unresponsive on the floor within their home around 3:14 p.m. on Thursday, June 20. Upon arriving at the scene, responding officers noted that Kim had sustained multiple suspicious injuries, indicating a disturbance within the residence. Additionally, several items were reported missing from the property.
**Medical examination and cause of death**

Kim was promptly transported to Hilo Benioff Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead at 6:54 p.m. An autopsy conducted by a forensic pathologist revealed that the cause of Kim’s death was strangulation, leading to the determination that her passing was a result of homicide. The case has now been classified as second-degree murder, and the investigation by HPD is ongoing.
