The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has made a significant breakthrough in the NEET UG question paper leak case by arresting the fifth accused on Saturday. This arrest comes hot on the heels of the apprehension of the principal and vice-principal of Oasis School in Hazaribagh, Jharkhand, in connection with the same case. The latest accused, Jamaluddin Ansari, a marketing professional with a Hindi media organisation, was taken into custody after extensive questioning by CBI officials.
Role of Principal and Vice-Principal in the Scandal
The principal of Oasis School, Dr Ehsanul Haque, who also served as the district coordinator for the NEET examination in Hazaribagh, and his deputy, Imtiaz Alam, played crucial roles in the question paper leak. Dr Haque’s position as the exam centre superintendent at Oasis School, as well as his role as the National Testing Agency (NTA)’s observer, made him a key figure in the scandal. Crucial Technical Evidence Against the Fifth Accused
According to a CBI official, crucial technical evidence has been obtained against Jamaluddin Ansari, linking him to the question paper leak. The agency’s thorough investigation revealed that Jamaluddin was in constant communication with Dr Ehsanul Haque before and after the examination, raising suspicions about his involvement in the leak. This evidence, combined with other findings, led to his arrest and subsequent remand.
Details of the Investigation and Leak Origin
The CBI’s probe unveiled that the leak originated from Oasis School, where the question papers were tampered with inside trunk boxes wrapped in envelopes. Despite the tampering, the principal failed to report the incident to higher authorities, casting doubt on his role in the scandal. The investigation also exposed a series of events leading up to the leak, including the transportation of question paper consignments by a courier company to a bank.
Legal Proceedings and Judicial Custody
Today, all three accused from Jharkhand were produced before a CBI court and subsequently sent to judicial custody. The court granted the CBI’s request for remand of the accused, ordering their production in jail on July 4. The agency’s meticulous collection of evidence, including call data records and seized electronic devices, has strengthened the case against the accused, paving the way for further legal action.
Medical Checkups and Continued Investigations
In a bid to ensure the well-being of the accused, a medical team from JPN Hospital conducted health checkups for all five individuals arrested in connection with the case. Additionally, multiple teams of CBI officials carried out searches and interrogations at various locations, including Beur central jail premises, Kankarbagh, and Kanti Factory locality.
