Chaos Unfolds in Central Sioux Falls

A chaotic scene unfolded in central Sioux Falls on Wednesday, with three people taken into custody and a woman still on the run following a shooting incident. The drama began near the Midco Aquatic Center, where an altercation between one of the suspects and an innocent bystander escalated quickly. A shot was fired in the direction of the victim before the suspects fled the scene, setting off a chain of events that would culminate in a high-speed chase through city streets.

High-Speed Chase and Surveillance Footage

A Ring doorbell camera captured the suspect vehicle, which had reportedly been stolen earlier in the day, speeding down 22nd Street as police gave chase. Authorities reported speeds of up to 70 mph as the pursuit unfolded, with the fugitive task force joining in the effort to apprehend the suspects. The chase took a dangerous turn when the suspect vehicle attempted to make a sharp turn at 22nd and Phillips Avenue, resulting in a collision with a parked car and two small trees.

Residents Witness the Aftermath

Nich Kemper, a resident in the area, described hearing a loud crash and seeing the aftermath of the collision outside his home. The suspect vehicle had left tire tracks on the street and sidewalk, as well as running over two small trees in the process. Kemper’s car was also damaged in the collision, prompting him to investigate the scene with his mother. The chaos continued as the suspect vehicle fled down Phillips Avenue, only to crash into a pickup truck at a nearby intersection.

Arrests and Recovery of Evidence

Following the collision with the pickup truck, police were able to apprehend two of the suspects immediately. A third suspect attempted to flee on foot but was captured shortly thereafter. A search of the suspect vehicle did not initially yield the weapon used in the shooting, but a gun matching the description was later found on a sidewalk in the area. The suspects, identified as 19-year-old Corbat Heron, 19-year-old Shalena Alexander, and a 17-year-old, are facing multiple charges in connection with the incident.

Search for Additional Suspect

Authorities are still searching for 19-year-old Karissa Becker, who is believed to be connected to the shooting incident. The investigation into the events leading up to the shooting and subsequent chase is ongoing, with law enforcement working to piece together the sequence of events that unfolded in central Sioux Falls.
