About the Tragic Accident

Authorities in Luuka are currently investigating a heartbreaking incident that claimed the lives of a former Luuka woman Member of Parliament aspirant and the Vice Chairman of LC II Kirimwa Parish. The two victims, identified as Gladys Aliyinza and Yusufu Biita, were travelling in a silver grey Isuzu double cabin when tragedy struck. Their vehicle collided head-on with a sugarcane-loaded lorry along the Kamuli-Kaliro road in Luuka District.

The Victims

Gladys Aliyinza, aged 34, was a resident of Lambala village in Irongo parish, Irongo sub-county, Luuka District. She had a strong passion for politics and had aspirations of representing her community in parliament. Yusufu Biita, on the other hand, hailed from Kirimwa in Bukooma Sub-county, Luuka District. Both individuals were well-respected members of their respective communities and their untimely demise has left a void that will be hard to fill.

The Incident

The fatal accident occurred on Thursday, the 27th of June 2024, at approximately 4:30 am. The lorry, registered as UAU 073G, was transporting sugarcane from the Kaliro side when it collided with the Isuzu double cabin, registered as UG4654C, travelling in the opposite direction. The collision took place at Nawansega cell in Nawansega Ward, Bukova Town Council, Luuka District. Initial findings suggest that the lorry was sloping and the bend in the road may have contributed to the crash. Excessive speed is believed to be the primary cause of the accident.

The Outcome

Tragically, Yusufu Biita lost his life on the spot, while efforts to save Gladys Aliyinza proved unsuccessful as she passed away on the way to Musana Hospital in Kaliro District. The news of their deaths has sent shockwaves through the local community, prompting an immediate response from the authorities.

Police Response

Upon receiving reports of the accident, traffic police swiftly arrived at the scene, accompanied by the District Police Commander. The body of Yusufu Biita was taken to Kiyunga Health Centre IV for a postmortem examination, while the remains of Gladys Aliyinza were transported to Musana Community Hospital.
