In a recent operation in Dhanpalthan, Morang, near the Nepal-India border area, police have apprehended an individual in possession of over 15 quintals of illegal marijuana. The suspect, identified as Raj Kumar Singh, 30, hails from Kamalpur, Dhanpalthan Rural Municipality-7.

Massive Seizure
Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Gyanendra Bahadur Basnet revealed that a staggering 1,548 kg of illegal marijuana was confiscated from Singh’s shed. Acting on a tip-off, Superintendent of Police (SP) Navraj Karki and the Morang police team from Rangeli Police Station raided the location and made the significant seizure.
Concealed Contraband
The illegal marijuana, hidden within 49 sacks, was cleverly concealed in the wheat chaff storage within Singh’s shed. Authorities are yet to ascertain if Singh himself transported and stored the marijuana, as investigations are ongoing. DSP Basnet mentioned, “It remains unclear where the marijuana originated from and its intended destination. Our probe is underway, and it is suspected that the contraband was to be smuggled into India from Nepal.”

Marijuana cultivation is reportedly rampant in the hilly terrains of Koshi Province, with the produced marijuana often finding its way across the border to India through districts like Jhapa, Morang, and Sunsari.
