The Crackdown on Fentanyl Trafficking in Lakeland

In a major operation spanning over three years, law enforcement agencies in Lakeland, Florida, have successfully dismantled a fentanyl trafficking organization that had been wreaking havoc in the area. The joint effort involved the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, The Florida Department of Law Enforcement, and the Attorney General’s Office of Statewide Prosecution, led by Ashley Moody.

Uncovering the Criminal Network

The investigation targeted the Rooske drug trafficking organization, which operated under the guise of legitimate businesses – the Rooske Bait and Tackle Shop and Rooske Motorcycle Parts & Accessories. The mastermind behind the operation was identified as Hector Baez Torres, a 43-year-old resident of Lakeland. His wife, Pilar Rivera, and their daughter, Jeimylee Baez Rivera, were also implicated in the criminal enterprise. Working closely with Baez Torres was his right-hand man, Miguel Castro Rivera of Auburndale.

Bringing the Suppliers to Justice

Two key suppliers of illegal drugs to the Rooske organization were apprehended during the operation. Wilfredo Feliciano Velez and Casimiro Bidot Del Valle, both residents of Kissimmee, were responsible for funneling drugs into the hands of the traffickers. Feliciano Velez was caught red-handed delivering cocaine to Hector Baez Torres, while Bidot Del Valle was arrested at his residence in Osceola County.

A Seizure of Drugs and Assets

During the execution of search warrants, law enforcement officers seized a significant amount of illegal substances, including fentanyl, cocaine, methamphetamine, oxycodone, and marijuana. The street value of the confiscated drugs was estimated to be over $475,000. Additionally, assets linked to the criminal organization, such as cash, vehicles, merchandise, and property, were seized, totalling over $600,000 in value.

The Impact of the Operation

The combined value of the seized assets and illegal drugs dealt a heavy blow to the Rooske Drug Trafficking Organization, amounting to over $1 million. While many individuals were arrested for their involvement in buying drugs from the organization, the focus of the operation was to dismantle the entire criminal network and bring its leaders to justice.
