An Iowa woman, Margot Lewis, aged 32, is now facing murder charges after the tragic discovery of a body in the aftermath of a car crash in Olmsted County, Minnesota. The Hennepin County Attorney’s Office wasted no time in filing these serious charges against Lewis, just one day after she was initially charged with interfering with a corpse in Olmsted County Court.

The unsettling incident unfolded when Lewis was identified as the driver of a vehicle that crashed into the freeway median at the 42/I-90 interchange south of Eyota at around 7:00 am on June 22nd. Shockingly, the body of 35-year-old Liaria Tsai was found in the back of the car, with charges indicating that Tsai had tragically succumbed to multiple blunt force injuries prior to the crash.

Further investigations revealed a harrowing scene at Tsai’s apartment in Minneapolis, where authorities executed a search warrant and discovered evidence of a violent incident that had taken place. The complaint filed in Hennepin County District Court described the apartment as a bloody crime scene, with the bed and bedding saturated in blood, and a bloody plastic and metal object found in the bed. Additionally, a steak knife was missing from a knife set in the residence.

Security camera footage shed light on the events leading up to the crash, showing Tsai’s vehicle leaving the Minneapolis apartment complex at 4:30 a.m. on the day of the tragedy. The driver’s clothing matched what Lewis was seen wearing at the crash scene, further implicating her in the gruesome chain of events.

Investigators uncovered that Lewis and Tsai had been in a prior romantic relationship, with an ex-husband of Tsai describing the relationship as sour. The ex-husband revealed that Lewis had flown to Minneapolis to visit Tsai on June 21st, setting the stage for the tragic turn of events.

Despite the gravity of the situation, Lewis has remained tight-lipped and has yet to provide a verbal statement to investigators. Following the crash, Lewis was brought to the Olmsted County Law Enforcement Center, where she declined to communicate through sign language and indicated that she had taken a vow of silence.

The case took a chilling turn when it was revealed that Tsai’s dog was also in the vehicle at the time of the crash, further adding to the tragic circumstances of the incident. The felony charges suggest that Lewis was driving Tsai’s vehicle at an estimated speed of 105 mph before the fateful crash occurred.

As the investigation continues, law enforcement officials are still on the lookout for the missing knife and piecing together the events that led to this horrifying outcome. Lewis now faces two counts of second-degree murder, with her bail set at $1 million as she awaits her next court appearance in the Rochester-area case on July 5th.

In a bid to provide some respite from the grim news, movie buffs in Minnesota can still enjoy the nostalgia of drive-in cinemas, with 5 drive-ins open in the state for those looking to transport themselves back in time for a cinematic experience under the stars..
