Tragic Shooting Incident at Chick-fil-A Restaurant in Texas

In a devastating turn of events, a Chick-fil-A restaurant in Texas was recently the scene of a tragic shooting incident that left two employees dead. The fast-food establishment, located on the 5300 block of North MacArthur Boulevard in Irving, was temporarily closed after the horrifying event took place. The victims, identified as 49-year-old Patricia Portillo and 31-year-old Brayan Alexis Godoy, were pronounced dead at the scene.

Suspect Identified and Arrested

The suspect, 37-year-old Oved Bernardo Mendoza Argueta, who is an immigrant in the country unlawfully from El Salvador, has been apprehended and charged with capital murder. Authorities do not believe the double homicide was a random act of violence, as it has been revealed that Mendoza Argueta is married to a restaurant employee who witnessed the crime and identified him as the perpetrator. The suspect fled the scene in a 1997 Honda four-door sedan but was later booked into the Irving City Jail.

Immigration Detainer Placed

Following the arrest of Mendoza Argueta, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) placed an immigration detainer on him, indicating their intention to assume custody of the individual. ICE officials stated that detainers are crucial in identifying and removing criminal aliens who are in federal, state, or local custody. The agency relies on the cooperation of law enforcement partners in carrying out this effort.

Heartbreak and Closure

The local Chick-fil-A owner-operator expressed deep sorrow over the tragic incident, stating, “Our hearts are broken by the tragedy that unfolded inside our restaurant Wednesday. We will miss our two team members dearly. Right now, our focus is on providing care for our team and the victims’ families.” The Irving-Las Colinas establishment has been temporarily closed, with uncertainty surrounding its reopening.

Previous Incidents Raise Concerns

This recent shooting incident is not the first involving illegal immigrants in the country. Earlier this month, 12-year-old Jocelyn Nungaray was tragically murdered by two illegal immigrants in Houston. The suspects, Johan Jose Martinez-Rangel and Franklin Pena from Venezuela, had been detained and released by U.S. Border Patrol just weeks before the heinous crime took place. Critics have pointed fingers at President Joe Biden’s border policies, with former President Donald Trump expressing his dismay over the escalating situation.
