MADISON, Wis. (AP/WBAY) — A second teenage inmate at Lincoln Hills School is now facing charges in connection with the tragic death of a staff member earlier this week. 17-year-old Rian Nyblom, who was detained in the same unit as Javarius Hurd when the assault occurred, has been arrested by the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office.

Nyblom has been charged with Felony Murder and two counts of Battery by Prisoners as Party to a Crime. He is currently being held at the Lincoln County Jail on a $20,000 cash bond. The investigation into the incident is still ongoing, with multiple agencies working together to uncover the full details of what happened.

Corey P. Proulx’s Tragic Passing

The staff member who lost his life in this heartbreaking event has been identified as Corey P. Proulx, a dedicated youth counselor for the Wisconsin Department of Corrections. Proulx was gravely injured in an assault at Lincoln Hills-Copper Lake Schools and was declared brain-dead on Tuesday to facilitate organ donation, according to Lincoln County Coroner Valerie Caylor.

Proulx, 49, had returned to his role as a youth counselor at Lincoln Hills School just last spring after a brief hiatus from the school two years prior. His commitment to his work and the young people in his care was evident to all who knew him.

Impact on the Community

The tragic loss of Corey Proulx has deeply affected not only his colleagues at the Department of Corrections but also the wider community. Governor Tony Evers has ordered flags to be flown at half-staff as a mark of respect for Proulx’s dedication and service.
