RCMP Major Crimes Officers Investigating Suspicious Death in Eastern Saskatchewan

Authorities have confirmed that RCMP major crimes officers have taken over the investigation of a suspicious death in eastern Saskatchewan. The incident unfolded when Mounties responded to reports of an injured 32-year-old man at a home in the community of Canora, located approximately 250 kilometres northeast of Regina. Upon arrival at the residence, officers discovered the man, who was pronounced dead by emergency medical services.

Details of the Investigation

According to a written statement released by Saskatchewan RCMP on Thursday, the male’s death is currently being treated as suspicious, prompting the involvement of RCMP Major Crimes in the ongoing investigation. While the exact manner of death has not been disclosed, authorities have refrained from sharing any further information at this time. Police have assured the public that they will be notified of any potential risks associated with the crime as the investigation progresses.

Arrests Made in Connection with Previous Homicides

Meanwhile, in a separate development, RCMP announced that two suspects have been arrested in connection with the October 2023 killing of 31-year-old Lee Bearsears in a rural area on Poundmaker First Nation, located approximately 450 kilometres northwest of Regina. Craig Fox, 27, of Little Pine First Nation, was apprehended in Regina on June 17 and has been charged with one count of second-degree murder. He is scheduled to appear in North Battleford Provincial Court on July 4. Additionally, Preston Checkosis, 44, of Poundmaker First Nation, was taken into custody in Saskatoon on June 10 and has been charged with one count of accessory after the fact. He made an appearance in North Battleford Provincial Court on the same day.

Recent Arrests in Relation to Another Homicide

Furthermore, three individuals have been arrested and charged in connection with a homicide in northeast Saskatchewan. The incident came to light when officers responded to a report of an injured person on June 22 at a residence on Hatchet Lake First Nation, situated approximately 1,000 kilometres north of Regina. Subsequent investigations revealed that the victim, identified as 42-year-old Christopher Joseyounen from Hatchet Lake First Nation, sustained serious injuries during a confrontation involving a group of individuals. Jean St. Pierre, 37, of Wollaston Lake, was arrested and charged with one count of second-degree murder, while two other women, Tricia St. Pierre, 36, from Hatchet Lake First Nation, and Tinnisha Josie, 18, from Wollaston Lake, were each charged with one count of second-degree murder. All three suspects appeared in Wollaston Lake provincial court on Wednesday.
