In a tragic turn of events, newly unsealed search warrants have shed light on the evidence collected in the murder investigation of Liara Tsai, a 35-year-old woman from Minneapolis. The investigation has taken a dark turn with the arrest of Margot Lewis, a woman from North Liberty, Iowa, who has been charged with two counts of second-degree murder for Tsai’s death in Hennepin County and interference with a body in Olmsted County.
**The Tragic Discovery**
The unsettling chain of events began on the morning of Saturday, June 22, when Lewis was involved in a car crash on I-90 near Eyota. Good Samaritans who came to her aid discovered a deceased person wrapped in a tarp in the back seat of the vehicle. It was later revealed that the deceased individual was Liara Tsai, identified through the car’s registration. This discovery prompted law enforcement to investigate Tsai’s Minneapolis home, where they found a scene of violence.
**Evidence Collected**
Search warrants obtained by KTTC reveal the disturbing evidence collected from the car by the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA) and the Olmsted County Sheriff’s Office (OCSO). The BCA retrieved items such as a tarp, a blood-stained towel, a knife, a steering wheel, and swabs from door handles. Meanwhile, OCSO seized a significant number of Tsai’s personal documents, including a name change document, birth certificate, social security cards, and a passport. Additionally, a passport, airline ticket, and a diary belonging to Lewis were also found and taken into evidence. Nail clippings and hand swabs from Lewis were also collected as part of the investigation.
**Legal Proceedings**
Margot Lewis is set to appear in court in Olmsted County on July 5 to face the charges brought against her. As of now, no court date has been scheduled in Hennepin County, where the second-degree murder charges were filed. The legal process will unfold as authorities seek justice for the tragic death of Liara Tsai.
