A Guadalupe County man, Shawn Sims, has been apprehended and is currently being held in the Wilson County Jail in connection to a significant theft case that originated in Milam County. The Milam County Sheriff’s Office disclosed that Sims, aged 51, was taken into custody on Tuesday on various charges, including Theft $150,000-300,000, a second-degree felony, Theft $2,500-30,000, a state jail felony, and Tampering with a Government Record to Defraud or Harm, also a state jail felony.

Details of the Investigation

The investigation unfolded on Friday, June 21, when the owner of a 2023 Supertrak contacted the Sheriff’s Office to report the theft of the equipment. The Supertrak, valued at $290,000, had been leased to Sims. It was discovered that Sims had been hired to clear property in Milam County. During the investigation, it was found that Sims had contacted the equipment owner, claiming the equipment had a leak that needed fixing. However, when the owner arrived at the location, the equipment was missing, leading Sims to allege that it had been stolen.

Discovery of Stolen Equipment

Deputies uncovered evidence that Sims had been transporting the stolen equipment to a storage facility in Seguin. The Seguin Police Department recovered crucial evidence at the storage unit, enabling the Sheriff’s Office to charge Sims with theft of the equipment. Additionally, investigators believe that Sims was paid for work at the Milam County location that had not been carried out, resulting in an additional theft charge. It was also revealed that Sims had presented a falsified government document with a non-existent tax identification number to rent the equipment.

Appreciation for Assistance

Milam County Sheriff Mike Clore expressed gratitude towards the Seguin Police Department, the Seguin Fire Marshal, and the Wilson County Sheriff’s Office for their invaluable assistance and cooperation throughout the investigation. Sims was eventually located and apprehended with the collaborative efforts of the Milam County Sheriff’s Office, Seguin PD, and the Wilson County Sheriff’s Office. He was arrested by deputies from the Wilson County Sheriff’s Office and is currently in custody at the Wilson County Jail. Further charges may be imposed across multiple jurisdictions.
