Child Trafficking Network Busted in Tumakuru

In a recent shocking revelation, the Tumakuru police have uncovered a child trafficking network after investigating the case of a kidnapped baby. This led to the arrest of seven individuals involved in the heinous crime and the rescue of five infants who were victims of this despicable operation.

Arrest of the Accused

The arrested suspects have been identified as Mahesh U D, Mehboob Sharif, Ramakrishnappa, Hanumantaraju, Mubarak Pasha, Purnima, and Saujanya. They were apprehended by a special team formed by Superintendent of Police Ashok K V after a complaint was filed regarding the abduction of an 11-month-old baby in Gubbi.

Modus Operandi of the Trafficking Ring

Investigations revealed that the accused, led by Mahesh, targeted vulnerable women who had children out of wedlock or through illicit relationships. Mahesh, a former staff nurse at Kunigal Government Hospital, would then acquire the babies from these women and sell them to childless couples for a profit ranging from Rs 2 to Rs 3 lakh.

Rescue Operation and Tragic Discovery

Following the arrests, the police were able to rescue five of the children trafficked by the accused. Unfortunately, one child was found dead, a devastating turn of events in this harrowing case. The remaining children were either reunited with their parents or placed in an adoption center under the supervision of the Child Welfare Committee.

Involvement of Mehboob Sharif

One of the key players in this illegal operation was Mehboob Sharif, who not only ran a private hospital in Huliyar town but also worked as a pharmacist at a PHC in Goobehalli village. His dual role in the healthcare sector provided him with the perfect cover to carry out his nefarious activities.

In addition to the arrests, the police were able to seize a car, Rs 50,000 in cash, and four mobile phones that were used by the accused to facilitate the abduction of children. These assets will now be used as evidence in the ongoing investigation into the child trafficking network in Tumakuru.
