The Incident

In a recent incident at Maharaja Bir Bikram (MBB) College in Agartala, a clash broke out between members of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) and the Tripura Students Federation (TSF) during the admission process. The altercation reportedly occurred when the two student outfits were assisting new students with their admissions.

The Arrest

Following the clash, the Tripura Police swiftly took action and arrested one ABVP activist in connection with the incident. The officer in-charge of the East Agartala police station, Sanjib Sen, confirmed the arrest and stated that they are currently investigating the matter. The accused individual has been booked under Section 325 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

The Injured Student

The victim of the attack has been identified as Khorang Debbarma, a member of the TSF. He was immediately taken to Govind Ballabh Pant (GBP) Hospital for treatment and was later discharged after receiving preliminary medical attention. The TSF members claim that Khorang was attacked by ABVP members when he tried to raise a complaint against them with the college principal.

Reactions and Responses

In response to the incident, Manish Debbarma, the vice-president of TSF Agartala Town Committee, condemned the attack and urged the college principal to take strict action against the perpetrators. However, he expressed difficulty in identifying the assailants due to the lack of CCTV cameras on the college premises.

MBB College principal Dr Nirmal Bhadra stated that no formal complaint had been received thus far, apart from the one lodged by the students’ organization. He assured that security measures have been heightened on campus to prevent any further altercations.

ABVP state secretary Sanjit Saha claimed that some of their members were also injured during the clash and announced their intention to file a complaint with the police station.
