A masked individual, described as a white male, entered the store brandishing a handgun. The suspect demanded money from the clerk and also requested several packs of cigarettes. After looting the store of $560 in cash, cigarettes, and energy drinks, the suspect fled the scene.

The Investigation and Arrest

Following the robbery, the Statesville Police Department’s Violent Crime Unit launched an investigation and identified Joseph Ioerger as the prime suspect. On July 6, officers tracked Ioerger to an address on Crestridge Road in Statesville. When confronted by the officers with evidence connecting him to the robbery, Ioerger confirmed his involvement. However, as the officers moved to arrest him, Ioerger resisted and adamantly declared that he would not go to jail. Upon searching him, the officers found a 9mm Ruger, two loaded magazines, and two Carolina Panthers rings in his possession. These items had been reported stolen by his stepfather the day before.
