Katrina Doherty, who had been shopping at the store with her children, described the harrowing experience of hearing gunshots and seeking shelter in a freezer. Roderick Rogers, a member of the city council, also witnessed the chaos as people ran for cover in every direction.

In addition to Gopikrishna, the other victims who lost their lives were Shirley Taylor, Roy Sturgis, Ellen Shrum, and Callie Weems. The lone suspect was injured during an exchange of gunfire with law enforcement and now faces multiple counts of capital murder.
