CBI Takes Over the Case
Following a complaint from the Union Health Ministry, the CBI filed an FIR on Sunday in connection with the NEET examination irregularities. The ministry mentioned that “certain isolated incidents” occurred in a few states during the conduct of the examination. The case was initially investigated by the Economic Offences Unit (EOU) of the Bihar Police, which led to the arrest of 18 individuals.
Collection of Evidence
The evidence gathered by the EOU includes burnt question papers recovered from a house in Patna, mobile phones of the arrested individuals, SIM cards, laptops, post-dated cheques, and reference question papers provided by the National Testing Agency (NTA). All 18 accused will be taken to Delhi for detailed interrogation after obtaining transit remand from a Patna court.
Prime Suspect identified
Among those in custody, a junior engineer in Danapur Town Council named Sikander Prasad Yadvendu has been identified as the prime suspect in the case. Yadvendu, originally from Samastipur, may face additional charges of disproportionate assets (DA) due to the possession of assets disproportionate to his known source of income. The officer mentioned that Yadvendu has a history of involvement in criminal activities and was previously implicated in an LED scam.
