Tragic Incident Unfolds in Epurupalem Village
In a heartbreaking turn of events, a 21-year-old woman was brutally raped and murdered in Epurupalem village in Chirala mandal of Bapatla district. The accused, identified as Devarakonda Vijay (26), K Mahesh (22), and Devarakonda Srikanth (24), have been arrested by the Bapatla police.

Details of the Crime
According to Bapatla SP Vakul Jindal, the main accused Vijay and Mahesh, in an inebriated state, came across the woman near the railway track as she went to relieve herself. They sexually assaulted her and ultimately smothered her to death. Srikanth, the third accused, was complicit in the crime and provided a hideout for the perpetrators.
Police Action and Investigation
After receiving a complaint from the victim’s mother, P Kamakshi, the police swiftly acted and filed a case under IPC Sections 302 and 376. Under the directive of Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, Home Minister Vangalapudi Anitha, and other officials, ten special teams were formed to track down the culprits.
The Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) and clues team meticulously collected evidence from the crime scene, identified the accused, and apprehended them at a restaurant on Vodarevu Road within 48 hours of the incident. The Home Minister visited the site to offer condolences to the grieving family and announced a compensation of `10 lakh.
