The Discovery of the Tragedy
The gruesome discovery was made around 7:15 pm when Ramandeep Kaur Mann, Kulvir’s wife, returned home from the market to find the main gate locked from the inside. Unable to enter, she sought help from neighbours, who then made the shocking discovery of the four lifeless bodies lying in a pool of blood inside the house.
The Police Investigation
Barnala’s Senior Superintendent of Police, Sandeep Malik, revealed that the tragic incident occurred around 6:30 pm on that fateful Saturday evening. Ramandeep’s statement to the police indicated that Kulvir had been battling depression for over a decade and had previously undergone surgery. It was also disclosed that Kulvir used his licensed revolver to carry out the horrific act.
CCTV footage from within the house captured the chilling sequence of events as Kulvir first shot his daughter, Nimrat, then his elderly mother, Balwant Kaur, and their pet Pug, before ultimately taking his own life.
The Aftermath
Nimrat, who had been studying in Canada on a student visa and was home on a break, tragically lost her life in this senseless act. With the demise of Kulvir, Balwant, Nimrat, and their pet dog, Ramandeep is now the sole surviving member of the family.
As the police investigation continues, forensic experts and Barnala police have invoked Section 174 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, 1973, which is applicable in cases of suicide, murder, accidental death, or under suspicious circumstances.
The bodies of the deceased will undergo postmortem examinations before being handed over to family members on Sunday afternoon.
