Man Arrested on Drug Charges After Suspicious Activity at Self-Storage Facility

A man was recently arrested for multiple drug-related charges in Williamson County, Illinois, after deputies noticed a suspicious vehicle at a self-storage facility. The incident occurred at a closed self-storage facility on W. Main Street in Marion, Illinois in the early hours of Monday, June 17.

According to the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office, deputies spotted a vehicle at the facility just after midnight, leading them to investigate further. The driver of the vehicle, later identified as William J. Marks, claimed he was dropping off items to store at the facility. However, upon closer inspection, deputies found that the key Marks had did not fit either of the units he claimed to be renting. Additionally, they noted that Marks did not seem to have reasonable items to drop off in the middle of the night.

During the course of their investigation, deputies discovered that Marks had a suspended driver’s license. A search of his vehicle revealed an illegal controlled substance, narcotics packaging materials, and multiple containers/baggies containing a white, crystal-like substance that tested positive for methamphetamine.

As a result of their findings, Marks was cited for meth possession, possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, no valid driver’s license, and driving while license suspended. He was subsequently taken into custody and transported to the Williamson Co. Jail.
