Indiana State Police reported that the incident began at approximately 5:30 p.m. when a trooper attempted to pull over a 2019 Chevy Silverado for speeding. The vehicle, driven by 35-year-old Thomas Vinson, was clocked at 87 mph in a 70-mph zone. Initially complying, Vinson abruptly sped off as the trooper approached the truck.

What followed was a dramatic chase through Clark, Scott, and Jackson Counties, with speeds reaching up to 100 mph. Despite the efforts of law enforcement agencies to deploy tire deflation devices, the driver managed to evade capture on multiple occasions.

Unraveling Events During the Chase

As the pursuit continued, police observed Vinson and his front-seat passenger discarding an unknown substance out of the windows. Additionally, it was discovered that the dealer plates on the vehicle were reported stolen. The chase traversed through various counties, with Vinson crossing the median and driving northbound about five miles south of Columbus, Indiana.

During the chaotic sequence of events, Vinson exited the interstate, colliding with a car entering the southbound on-ramp. Fortunately, the car sustained only minor damage, and no injuries were reported. Undeterred, Vinson re-entered I-65 North, persisting in his attempt to flee.

Arrest and Charges

Ultimately, the high-speed pursuit came to an end near the 82-mile marker, where Vinson, along with his accomplices 29-year-old Cedrick Gleaves and 23-year-old Carl Fulmore, were apprehended without further incident. The stolen Silverado was confirmed to have been reported missing from Westfield, Indiana, in May.

Vinson, who had multiple warrants out of Marion County, now faces a slew of charges, including resisting arrest, vehicle theft, criminal recklessness, and possession of marijuana. Gleaves and Fulmore have been charged with possession of marijuana. All three individuals are currently being held at the Clark County Jail awaiting arraignment.
