A tragic incident unfolded in West Palm Beach this month, as Darquize McKinon lured two men under the guise of buying marijuana, only to pull out a gun and fatally shoot one of them during a robbery attempt. The victim, 46-year-old Jeffrey Robert Lowder, lost his life in an alleyway near 18th Street and Beautiful Avenue.

McKinon, who resides near Riviera Beach, was arrested on June 18, three days after the shooting. He now faces charges of first-degree murder and armed robbery. During a hearing at the Palm Beach County Jail, Circuit Judge Sara Willis assigned McKinon a public defender and ordered him to be held without bail.
The sequence of events leading to Lowder’s tragic demise began at around 10:15 a.m. on June 15. Lowder, McKinon, and another man arrived in a rented Nissan Altima on the 500 block of 18th Street. Shortly after exiting the vehicle and walking to an alleyway between 17th and 18th streets, witnesses reported hearing gunshots.
According to a police report, one of the witnesses recounted that he and Lowder were looking to purchase marijuana in the area when McKinon offered to take them to a supplier. As they walked towards the back alley, McKinon pulled out a gun and demanded that Lowder empty his pockets. Despite attempts to signal Lowder to run, McKinon fired his weapon before Lowder could escape. The witness then punched McKinon and fled the scene.
Another witness observed McKinon running back to the vehicle after the shooting and driving away. Thanks to this witness, investigators were able to identify the vehicle through its license plate number. The car had been loaned to McKinon by a female relative and her boyfriend.
