A 24-year-old man named Javed is currently absconding after tensions erupted in Nahan, Himachal Pradesh, over a WhatsApp status allegedly depicting cow slaughter. The police have booked Javed for insulting religious sentiments, while another case has been registered against the mob that vandalised his shop.

The district administration and the police department have been working tirelessly to restore peace in the town of Nahan. A peace panel meeting was held on Thursday evening to address the situation and bring the community together.
Speaking to ThePrint, Sirmaur Deputy Commissioner Sumit Khimta stated, “Nahan town is peaceful. We have spoken to every community to address their concerns. A police probe is ongoing to investigate the incident and ensure justice is served.”

Members of the Muslim community in Nahan have expressed their concerns following the incident. A plumber, who wished to remain anonymous, shared how such incidents impact their livelihood. He stated, “Since this happened, I haven’t been able to work. I’ll go today because things have normalized, but we still feel scared.”
