Two teenage girls tragically lost their lives while enjoying a day out on a jet ski in Illinois. The incident occurred on Lake Marie in Antioch, where Elle Kim, a 13-year-old from Long Grove, Illinois, and Sarina Vootkur, a 16-year-old from Lake Forest, California, were involved in a fatal collision with a boat.

According to reports from the Lake County Sheriff’s Office and CBS News, Elle and Sarina were on a Yamaha jet ski, with Elle driving and Sarina as the passenger. They were heading north near the channel to Grass Lake when the accident took place. At the same time, a 55-year-old man was operating a Sea Ray Cabin Cruiser in the same area.
Eyewitnesses stated that the jet ski was speeding towards the boat, and despite the man’s efforts to avoid a collision, the two watercraft collided. Both girls, who were wearing life vests, were knocked unconscious and thrown into the water upon impact.
The occupants of the Sea Ray immediately sprang into action, pulling the girls from the water, calling 911, and providing aid. The operator of the Sea Ray and another boater helped bring Elle and Sarina to shore. Deputies arrived at the scene shortly after 5:00 p.m., and the girls were rushed to a local hospital.
Unfortunately, despite efforts to save them, Elle and Sarina succumbed to their injuries. The news of their untimely passing sent shockwaves through the community, and the Lake County Sheriff’s Office extended their condolences to the families of the young girls.
