In a shocking turn of events, a tradesman accused of gunning down a mother and shooting a good Samaritan who rushed to her aid in Central Queensland had his life saved as a teenager after being bitten by one of the world’s most deadly snakes. Ryan Geoffrey Cole, 31, allegedly went on a shooting rampage on his 31st birthday, resulting in the tragic death of his neighbour Natalie Jane Frahm, 34.
**Snake Bite Survival**
Back in 2008, Cole made headlines after being bitten on the foot by a coastal Taipan – the third most venomous snake in the world. Just 15 at the time, Cole was jumping into the Burnett River in his hometown of Mundubberra when the snake struck him twice on the foot. Thanks to the quick actions of his brother Jakob, 16, and friends Scott Smith, Josh Allen, Lee Carsons, and Torren Wood, Cole was able to be rescued and rushed to the hospital for nearly a litre of anti-venom to save his life.

Despite surviving the snake bite, Cole faced tragedy when his older brother Jakob passed away in July 2012 at the young age of 20. Jakob, along with Cole’s friends, had previously been honoured with a bravery award in 2011 for their heroic efforts in saving Cole’s life.

The South Mackay neighbourhood where Cole resided, owned by his mother, was rocked by the shooting incident that took place on Robb Place. Natalie Frahm, a single mother who had moved from Mount Isa to Mackay several years ago, fell victim to the alleged attack, leaving the community in shock and mourning.

The alleged shooting took place around 4.30pm when Cole reportedly opened fire on Ms Frahm as she sat in her car with her daughter and her daughter’s friend. James Trevor McGill, 66, who was visiting his elderly mother in the area, rushed to help Ms Frahm and was also shot in the chest. Despite the efforts of emergency services, Ms Frahm tragically lost her life at the scene.

Following the shooting, police swiftly responded, placing the surrounding area on lockdown as they searched for the alleged gunman. Cole was apprehended around 7.45pm outside a service station on the Bruce Highway, approximately 2km away from the crime scene. Cole appeared in Mackay Magistrates Court the following morning via video link from the watch-house, facing charges of murder and attempted murder.
