Natalie Frahm: Mackay Woman Shot Through Car Window in Front of Children

A 34-year-old woman, identified as Natalie Frahm, was tragically shot and killed through her car window in north Queensland. The incident occurred in South Mackay, where the victim’s car was parked in a driveway on Robb Place. The alleged shooter, 31-year-old Ryan Geoffrey Cole, has been charged with her murder and the attempted murder of a Good Samaritan neighbor who rushed to her aid.

Natalie Frahm was described as a “beautiful person” and “an absolute treasure” by those who knew her. She and her FIFO (fly-in, fly-out) partner had moved to Mackay from Mount Isa, where her family is based. Natalie worked as a customer service manager at her brother’s business, where she was known for being an “epic cook” with a passion for smoking meat. She was also a Muay Thai boxing enthusiast, an avid camper, motorcycle rider, and skateboarder.

Nick Vanderzee, the owner of a Muay Thai gym where Natalie trained, remembered her as a dedicated mother and a kind-hearted person. He expressed shock and devastation over the senseless act of violence that took her life. The community has come together to support each other in the wake of this tragedy.

The shooting took place while Natalie was on her way to a sporting activity with her two children, aged 11 and 12. The children witnessed the violent incident and fled the scene on foot, seeking help from a neighbor. The neighbor, a 66-year-old man, was shot in the hand and sternum when he confronted the alleged shooter. He is currently in stable condition at Mackay Base Hospital.

Detective Superintendent Emma Novosel praised the bravery of the children for alerting authorities and seeking help in a dangerous situation. She described the weapon used in the attack as a “revolver-style weapon” and confirmed that one shot was fired at each of the victims.

The alleged shooter, Ryan Geoffrey Cole, left the scene before police arrived, prompting an emergency declaration in the area. Police later located him at a gas station along the Bruce Highway, where he was arrested without incident. The Public Safety Maintenance Act (PSPA) was lifted, and there is no ongoing threat to the public.

The motive behind the attack remains unknown, and police are conducting further investigations to understand what led to this tragic event. Commissioner Steve Gollschewski emphasized the gravity of the situation, noting that a life was lost in front of children and another person was seriously injured.
