In a shocking turn of events in Southington, a man has been arrested on fraud charges for allegedly using a deceased woman’s credit card to make multiple purchases. Edward Pratte, 41, was taken into custody by the Wolcott Police Department after it was discovered that he had illegally used the credit card belonging to Alexandra Standish, who tragically lost her life in a driveway accident in Wolcott.

Connection to Tragic Incident
Pratte is said to be a friend of Brandon Hamel, who was dating Standish at the time of her untimely death. Standish, 37, was run over in a driveway on Central Avenue in Wolcott on February 10, and subsequently passed away at Bristol Hospital. The circumstances surrounding her death were clouded in controversy, with allegations that Hamel and another individual, James Sadlowski, were involved in delaying medical attention for Standish after the accident.
Allegations of Misuse
Following Standish’s death, her father filed a fraud complaint with the Wolcott police after discovering unauthorized purchases on her credit card. The purchases, totaling around $637, were made at a car company in Utah for software upgrades for a vehicle. Interestingly, Hamel was listed as an authorized user on the account, despite being hospitalized at the time due to a motorcycle crash.

Further investigation revealed that Pratte had used Hamel’s billing information to make the fraudulent purchases. Additionally, it was uncovered that Hamel had attempted to claim the life insurance policy on Standish, going as far as presenting a questionable death certificate to the insurance firm. Pratte also allegedly tried to gain control over Hamel’s finances by producing fake power of attorney documents.
