Young Man from Thrissur Released After Alleged Captivity in Armenia

A young man named Vishnu from Thrissur’s Irinjalakuda has been released after allegedly being held captive for ransom in Armenia. Vishnu, the son of Chembil Mukundan and Geetha from Peruvallippadam, Irinjalakuda, was detained by the owner of a building in Armenia over a financial dispute. The owner had threatened to harm Vishnu if the ransom was not paid.

Mother Seeks Help From Kerala Government

Geetha Mukundan, Vishnu’s mother, who resides in Peruvallipadam in Irinjalakuda, immediately sought help from Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, NORKA office, and Social Justice Minister R Bindu, stating that her son’s life was in danger. After a thorough investigation by the Indian Embassy and NORKA, the building owner finally allowed Vishnu to leave.

Chairman of Pravasi Welfare Board Speaks with Vishnu

KV Abdul Khader, the chairman of the Pravasi Welfare Board, spoke with Vishnu after his release. Vishnu reported that he was safe in Yerevan, the capital of Armenia, with friends and was hopeful of settling the matter soon. Vishnu had initially reached Armenia with the help of a person named Sharuq from Irinjalakuda. He had been working at a hostel in Yerevan, along with other Malayalis.

Deception Leads to Captivity

Vishnu’s ordeal began when he was allegedly deceived by Muhammad, Sharuq, and Shibu at the hostel where he worked. Muhammad coerced Vishnu into signing a consent form transferring the hostel’s management rights to him, under the guise of ensuring Vishnu could manage the hostel in his absence. Due to language barriers, Vishnu was unaware of the document’s contents. Eventually, the hostel operations ceased due to mismanagement, leading to Vishnu being taken captive by the building owner, Arggeesh.

Ransom Demands and Family’s Efforts

After being held captive, the captors initially demanded a ransom of Rs 1,20,000 daily from Vishnu’s family. Despite the family sending Rs 1,50,000 from India, the captors are now demanding an additional Rs 3 lakh. Geetha, Vishnu’s mother, expressed her distress over the situation in her complaint to the authorities.
