Takoma Park Resident identified as Victim in Fatal Hit-and-Run

A tragic incident unfolded on June 3 when Candido Noe Rojas Rojas, a 42-year-old resident of Takoma Park, was the victim of a fatal hit-and-run collision on University Boulevard East. The Montgomery County police confirmed his identity and revealed the heartbreaking news that Rojas succumbed to his injuries at a local hospital.

The events leading up to Rojas’ death began in the early hours of June 3, when Takoma Park officers and Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service crews rushed to the 1100 block of University Boulevard East after receiving reports of a man with head injuries lying in the roadway near Anne Street. This area is in close proximity to the Mega Mart Latino Supermarket on University Boulevard East.

Upon arriving at the scene, officers found Rojas lying in the eastbound lanes of the road and quickly transported him to a nearby hospital for treatment. Tragically, an autopsy conducted by the Office of the Medical Examiner in Washington, D.C. confirmed that Rojas’ injuries were likely caused by a vehicle.

Detectives working on the case determined that Rojas was struck by a westbound vehicle that fled the scene towards Prince George’s County via Lebanon Street. The vehicle in question is believed to be a dark-colored Chevrolet Silverado 1500 from the model years 2014-2017, potentially with minor damage on the left side.

As the investigation into the hit-and-run continues, authorities are urging anyone with information about the collision to come forward. Those who may have witnessed the incident or have details about the vehicle involved are encouraged to contact the Montgomery County police at 240-773-6620 or email CRUnit@montgomerycountymd.gov.
