Tragic Accident in Cebu City

In a heartbreaking turn of events in Barangay Banilad, Cebu City, a white SUV crashed into motorcycles parked at the roadside, resulting in the death of a 55-year-old farmer and injuries to a 26-year-old food delivery rider. The farmer, who had just harvested spices and was preparing to deliver them, parked his motorcycle along Governor Cuenco Avenue while waiting for someone. Tragically, the impact of the collision sent him and his motorcycle flying several meters from their original position.

Eye-Witness Account

According to a witness, the delivery rider heard the sound of a speeding vehicle and turned to see the SUV heading towards them. The collision happened in an instant, leaving both victims in a critical condition. The driver of the SUV, a 32-year-old man, also sustained injuries and was placed under hospital arrest. Authorities are still investigating whether the driver was under the influence of alcohol or if he fell asleep at the wheel.

The family of the SUV driver has pledged to cover the medical expenses of the injured delivery rider and the deceased farmer. In a separate incident in Barangay Kalunasan, Calape town, a five-month-old baby boy lost his life in a tragic vehicular accident. The infant’s 21-year-old mother was driving the motorcycle, with the baby’s father riding pillion and carrying the baby. On their way to the hospital for the baby’s fever, they collided with another motorcycle after attempting to overtake a vehicle. The impact also involved a tricycle that was behind the motorcycle.

Police Investigation

The Calape Municipal Police Station reported that the couple was en route from Inabanga town to Tagbilaran City for the baby’s medical check-up. The baby was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital, while his parents sustained severe injuries and are currently receiving treatment. The driver of the other motorcycle and the occupants of the tricycle suffered minor injuries in the collision.
